Ji Xiao (Chinese: 吉晓 Jí Xiǎo) is an upcoming playable Hydro character in Genshin Impact.

She is a Jiaoren adeptus who signed a contract with the Geo archon Morax long ago to protect humans and live alongside them. She also has a contract with Teyvat Stars, an agency dedicated to nurturing and promoting the idols of Teyvat. On her musical tour across the regions, she aims to touch the hearts of all who hear her singing.

One of the few remaining Jiaoren adeptus residing in Liyue, Ji Xiao has dedicated her life to protecting the living beings throughout the region. She is especially fond of humans, even going as far as living among them and changing her form to look more human, much to the vexation of her fellow adepti. She is said to have a beautiful singing voice that can heal those who hear it. In just a short amount of time after her debut, she quickly rose to fame as a popular idol singer in Liyue, with many people appreciating her music for optimism and joy.

Ji Xiao genuinely believes that every living being is capable of change. Having witnessed the gradual decline of the Jiaoren, Ji Xiao strives to learn from her kind's mistakes and reach the darkness of all creatures' hearts, wishing to save them from their suffering. Even with such a selfish wish, Ji Xiao understands that she cannot force anyone to change, but the hope in her songs rings true to encourage those who are lost within themselves.

Despite her reputations as a renowned adeptus and beloved idol, Ji Xiao can be quite innocent and naive, often falling for fabricated stories and pranks. She is also very curious when it comes to new things she hasn't been exposed to before, especially human things. However, she sometimes gets ahead of herself and overwhelms others with her excitement in the process.

Having been living by the ocean all her life, Ji Xiao is fond of seafood dishes and energizing foods that taste refreshing. Although she is not too picky about what she eats, Ji Xiao prefers not to eat foods with bitter flavors and dislikes overly greasy dishes as they tend to upset her stomach. In her free time, Ji Xiao likes making charms for her friends made from pearls, seashells and small stones, placing a little luck and protection in each charm to bless the recipient.

Most people in Liyue see adepti as dignified, reserved beings who are enlightened beyond mortal affairs and worldly concepts. Ji Xiao, however, exists outside of that preconceived notion. It was out of love for humanity and the encouragement of her late mentor that made this adeptus decide to reside in Liyue Harbor. When those who happen to catch her concerts hear her songs, they become entranced by her healing voice and momentarily forget their troubles and woes.

Off-stage, Ji Xiao wanders around the region, appreciating the dynamics of human life. From life to death, dawn to dusk. You might find her making an endearing scene in the streets of Liyue, her eyes sparkling about some mundane human-made object that captivated her interest.
